About Jessica Witmer, LPCC

Jessica Witmer is a licensed mental health counselor who specializes in virtual EMDR therapy, and is also the owner of Mindbody Counseling & Wellness Center in downtown Angola, Indiana. She has led hundreds of EMDR sessions for clients in Indiana and Ohio.

Jessica’s work focuses on trauma, stress, EMDR therapy, the mindbody connection, nervous system healing, and deeper emotional processing. She works with adults who are often insightful, sensitive, capable, and self-aware, but who still feel stuck in patterns their mind alone has not been able to solve.

Her approach is trauma-informed, integrative, and collaborative. Depending on the client, therapy may include EMDR, parts work, somatic awareness, mindfulness, nervous system support, and depth-oriented conversation.

Jessica is not just “EMDR trained” - she is EMDRIA certified.

Session Options for Deeper EMDR Therapy Work

There is more than one way to structure your EMDR therapy sessions with Jessica Witmer, LPCC, LMHC at Mindbody Counseling & Wellness Center.

Some clients prefer standard weekly or biweekly therapy sessions. Others, particularly those who travel to work with us, need more time and space, especially when they are doing EMDR, trauma processing, somatic work, parts work, or deeper integration.

Session options may include:

55-Minute Therapy Sessions (virtual or in-person)
A standard therapy session for ongoing support, counseling, EMDR preparation, trauma-informed work, emotional processing, and nervous system support.

Extended Processing Sessions (virtual or in-person)
Longer sessions, usually around 1.5 to 3 hours, for clients who want more spacious time for deeper work. These can be helpful when a standard session feels too short to fully settle in, process, and integrate before leaving.

Therapy Intensives (in-person only)
A more concentrated format for clients who want to set aside dedicated time for focused therapeutic work. Intensives are not the right fit for everyone, but they may be helpful for certain clients who want a deeper container than standard weekly therapy.

Some clients travel from farther away and choose longer sessions so the drive feels worth it. Instead of driving a long distance for a standard 55-minute appointment, they may prefer more spacious time for EMDR, trauma processing, somatic work, parts work, and deeper integration.

What is EMDR and why does it work?

If you’ve ever said “I know it’s in the past, but my body doesn’t,” EMDR was designed for you.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a research-supported therapy that helps the brain finally complete the processing of traumatic or overwhelming experiences—so they stop replaying in the present.

During EMDR, you briefly focus on a distressing memory while engaging in bilateral stimulation (a gentle left-right rhythm, such as eye movements or tapping). This rhythm helps your nervous system stay regulated while the brain does what it naturally wants to do: digest and resolve what was left undone during a stressful or traumatic event.

Here’s what that actually means for you:

  • The memory loses its emotional charge

  • Your body stops reacting as if the danger is happening now

  • Triggers soften or disappear altogether

  • Insight happens without re-traumatizing yourself

  • Relief doesn’t just make sense—it sticks

Clients often say EMDR feels less like “re-living” and more like watching the memory fade into the past. Instead of being hijacked by reminders, your body recognizes: this is over. I survived. I’m safe now.

EMDR is especially helpful if you:

  • Get triggered even when you “know better”

  • Experience panic, hypervigilance, shutdown, or emotional flooding

  • Feel like your body reacts before your mind can catch up

You don’t have to retell your story endlessly. You don’t have to push through or relive pain. You don’t have to stay trapped in survival mode.

EMDR helps your nervous system learn what your mind already knows: the event is over—and you’re free to move forward.

If you’re ready for relief that happens at the level where trauma actually lives—in the body and brain—EMDR may be the missing piece.

Watch Jessica explain the 8 phases of EMDR.

At Mindbody Counseling & Wellness Center, therapy is not only about talking through what happened.

It’s about helping your nervous system, body, emotions, and deeper sense of self begin to reorganize around safety, clarity, and choice.

EMDR Therapy Near Toledo, Ohio

EMDR therapy is a research-supported trauma therapy approach that helps the brain and nervous system process distressing memories, triggers, and emotional patterns that may still feel active in the present.

You do not have to have one single “big trauma” to benefit from EMDR. EMDR may be helpful for painful memories, anxiety, grief, betrayal trauma, childhood wounds, relationship trauma, performance blocks, panic, shame, or body-based reactions that do not seem to shift through talk therapy alone.

Jessica Witmer, LPCC, LMHC, is EMDR Certified and uses EMDR within a broader mindbody and trauma-informed framework. This means the work may include attention to the body, nervous system, emotions, beliefs, parts of self, and the deeper meaning your system has attached to what you have lived through.
